Heaven
Well I went to the beach yesterday and kept an eye on all the nice clouds rolling through. I knew something would happen last night but didnt expect to see anything like this!
I took about 150 shots all with this composition in mind. For some reason I only used the 3 stop grad with the ND and for some reason never thought to wak the 2 stop grad on as well…. ahwell
This shot was something I have been wanting to try for a while but hadn’t found a suitable location. After I noticed that the shore line was pretty flat allowing slow smooth water movement I knew here was the place. IT was also partly inspired by some of Matt Lauder’s images and also Neal Pritchard’s.
I called it Heaven cause as I watched ans shot this sunset that is the only word that came to mind.
Having said all that I still dont think it is quite right….

What a gorgeous sunset you caught there, those clouds and colours are really nice! Were there ghosts on City Beach? Some strange transparent people seem to be on the beach!

Very nice shot mate , love the sky and water movment in the foreground . Its deffinatly getting to the nice weather and light for photography now

Pretty cool Dylan. Perth beaches are really hard to give a good perspective of, I think you managed it though with this series of images.

Cheers Flemming. Yeah it wasn’t to busy but obviously it would have cleaned things up if it was exposed for more than 10 seconds.

Kirk I cant wait for more of these nights! As much as i have been enjoying B&W and a larger window for an image op, I do love watching and having to prepared for this shorter window. Although this sunset lasted quite sometime!

Im going camping on a beach in victoria after New Years so will probably get some nice shots there!

Yeah nice shot..although to me it’s a bit pale in color, that might just be a screen thing as I’m on my laptop at the moment.
While you were at the beach was it only the clouds you were watching?

nice shot mate – glad somone made the most of it. I had a look back over the city and the clouds and colours were amazing too, unfortunately I had other commitments so just didnt have the time. Just looking forward for this current weather system to clear!

wicked sunset Dylan.
composition is great, would have been even better without all the sand trod up with footprints, i’m not really a fan on them in beach shots.
But being a suburban beach there’s not much that can be done. unless you turn into a crazy photographer dude who stakes out the beach with a shotgun all day. That’ll keep the beach empty! 😛 then blame it on “art” seems to work for some….

It sounds like the answer to landscape photography is GD filters. Do you think its worth the $!00?

Cheers Richard. Yeah I hate watching moments like this and not having the gear around. But at least us photographers can really appreciate such moment and know we will be ready for the next one! (hopefully)
Stephen I love these shots too, but its the kind of shot I would love to shoot on velvia, to get rid of any stitch errors so they are as simple as possible. The sand was something that pissed me off too! But we aren’t living near Christians home beaches!

Cheers Sean. Yeah I actually said last week on a blog that I can’t to be blown away by some colour… I guess I got what I asked for!
Mate grad filters are ESSENTIAL. Mine are only like $30 each as they are only cokin but they do a far better job than no filters! They work fine but only the ND can have a slight colour cast.

I put my version of heaven on my blog as well.
Mate i dont wanna sound like a jerk but i think the clouds are way too over sharpened. Unbeatable colour though!

Tony the clone tool would have far to much work to do and this just would’t work.
Sean this has had less than my normal sharpening and I will have to disagree as to me they dont really look that sharp…

I found out that if you put as much unnecessary gear on your camera and tripod to make it look more professional people try to avoid the camera. Then they think your trying to shoot them when you turn the camera for the next shot in the pano 🙂
