Ludington, Michigan

Warm evening light over a field in Michigan. I used a slow enough shutter speed to slightly blur and show the movement in the field that was created by a soft breeze.

Sun Catcher

This one tree caught my attention and I scrambled to capture it before the light disappeared. It was just this one tree that was catching the last of the sunshine for the day. Surrounded by beautiful lush green forest in the shade around it. I love photographing forest scene like this as they are so different to what I see back home.

Come and Find Me

I am fortunate enough to have spent plenty of time in Michigan at family reunions out on Hamlin Lake. The Manistee National Forest surrounds it and this year I found some compositions I really liked. This one I particularly like and loved photographing this particular area. The mosquitoes were insane so I had to click the shutter then keep moving!

First Class Seat

Heres a shot i took the other day here on Hamlin Lake. It is one of the neighbours jetties and when i saw the two chairs on it i knew i could make somethin of them.

And heres a shot of my new setup 😛

Ludington Lighthouse

I did process this shot while I was in the states, but ended up going back and re-stitching it yesterday and started fresh. I am much happier with it now, so it was worth starting from scratch for a second time.

This is the first lighthouse I shot on Lake Michigan, in the town closest to my families cottage. It was packed with walkers and a photography group but I managed a fews shots. The walk out the concrete jetty type thing had markings on it to show you the distance I think it was close to a half mile?…

Heres a shot of me that arvo (was still using that shitty old tripod). You can see further in front of me a bloke who was part of the camera group, and was right on the wall edge that was being smashed by waves. Sure enough he and his camera got soaked!

I have a shot from where I am standing in this shot and will post later, the only problem with it is the banding I got.

More of them American Clouds!

This was actually part of a image that basically had a low horizon and a bit of the lake before I cropped it to get a cloudscape out of it. This was a huge storm heading right for me, so I ran out to a jetty and got a few shots just before the rain started to fall. A few big storms rolled through the lake while I was there and they would leave before sunset. This always made for some great colour, a flat lake, no one in sight and that fresh forest smell right after the rain!

Hamlin Lake

Heres a shot from my last day at the lake. I walked a log way down the shore to get this shot as I had seen it a couple days before while we were fishing. This was just about the only pan of this spot where there was light hitting the land so it had to be used!

I took some of the blues down a little and added a warming filter amongst the usual adjustments.

In other news, I will be heading to NY for my first time on saturday for a few days and will get back here the ight before I head back to australia! I can’t wait to see all the touristy things like the Statue of Liberty, and hopefully get some nice shots of them!

Still more to come. I have a couple ready to post i just keep forgetting to do it so i will post one later.

Happy Shooting!

Manistee National Park, Hike

Went on a hike through the forest today to get to Lake Michigan. It’s a hike I haev done a couple times before but there was more water around this year.

Heres one of the shots I took. Very simple but pretty cool I think. I tried it with no colour in the sky which really enhanced the trees and th rest but obviously didn’t look to natural!

I have been shooting quite a lot so there is a lot more still to come!

Happy Shooting!
